Miracles in Your Life and Mine

Miracles in Your Life and Mine

If Jesus hadn't performed any miracles, it would have been much more difficult for people to believe that He was the Messiah, that He was Who He said He was, and that He had been sent by God.

Others during that time claimed that they were the Messiah, but they didn't heal people or raise them from the dead or turn water into wine.

Only Jesus did that.

And when He did, the Father in Heaven was glorified and people believed. That was the purpose of His miracles.

Just as Jesus said in today's Gospel, "Unless you see signs and portents you will not believe!" (John 4:48) He knew what people of that time needed to see to believe. And He knows what we need today to believe, and He gives us those things: exactly what we need, along with the graces, to believe.

So we may or may not receive a miracle for our circumstances, but we do have signs that we can look at continuously to increase our belief in Him: Jesus' real presence in the Eucharist. The Sacraments. Jesus' Passion and Resurrection.

God knows our hearts intimately, and I believe that He gives us little consolations here and there—even on a daily basis—that remind us of His presence in our lives and His love for us.

So maybe instead of praying and asking God for a sign, let us pray today to have the eyes to see it—whatever He is already placing in our lives to increase our belief.
