Abide on the Throne of My Heart

Abide on the Throne of My Heart

“The King of Love, my shepherd is,” I sing, as I rock my daughter in my arms. “His goodness fails me never. I nothing lack if I am His, and He is mine forever.” This hymn is her lullaby, just as it was for her older brother. The words leave my lips as a prayer, that this message may sink deep into their hearts.

“And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was shaken and asked, “Who is this?” (Matthew 21:10)

Who is this?

Recently I have tried to imagine what it would have been like to live in the days when Jesus completed His earthly ministry. I can’t help but wonder what my own reaction to Him would have been. As a modern woman I have the privilege of knowing a great deal of Jesus’ story—especially the one we hear proclaimed at today’s Palm Sunday Mass (Matthew 26:14-27:66). But how would I have felt if I didn’t know all I have read and come to know through a relationship with Him?

Who is Jesus?

Throughout today’s Gospel the title we hear most often is "Jesus, the King of the Jews." Do you know Jesus to be your king, sister?

Certainly the reality of having a king is a bit foreign for us in today’s society. Most of the kings I know are from fairy tale stories of far-off kingdoms. How blessed we are that our King wants us to know and love Him. Our King is the King of Love. The One Who gives Himself to you in the Eucharist, Who gave His life that you might live for eternity with Him. Sister, this is your royal inheritance as a daughter of the Most High King of the Universe.

As we enter into this holiest of weeks, let us focus our gaze upon the Lord. The One we see crucified on the Cross, wearing a crown of thorns, did this out of His abiding, merciful love for you—personally. This is the One Who longs to sit upon the throne of your heart.

This is Christ Jesus. Our God, and our King.

listen to today's devotion

Ask Our Lord in prayer today to sit at the throne of your heart. Ask Him to abide in you and with you this week in particular.
