The Light of My Life
The Light of My Life - Blessed Is She

It’s a simple thing. But one of my life’s greatest pleasures is opening my curtains to let the light in.

During a quiet morning, waking after a night of nursing the baby, I pull open the bedroom curtain and let the morning sun warm my skin. I feel that kiss of a new day with all its possibilities.

As the kids fill in around the dining table, asking for their favorite breakfasts, I open the living room curtains as the light shines on their wild bed hair and energetic smiles. The room is illuminated with love.

At the end of the day, I get home from work, open the kitchen curtain, and let the soft glow of the orange setting sun fill the room as we all chat about our days. The day softly fades into night, and we enjoy the time to gather, reflect, and bond.

And in the middle of the night, with everyone snoring and dreaming away, I rock the baby and peak through the sliding door curtain and see the moonlight up the night sky. Even in the darkness, that light cuts through to reveal those quiet parts of my heart.

And amidst the hustle of the day, I pass by our wall crucifix and look to Christ, the light of my life and the restorer of my soul. I feel what Saint John tells us in the Gospel today, "But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God."

Jesus, thank You for being the light.

If you don't yet have sacred art or crucifixes around your home, pick one out today to put up on the wall. It doesn't have to be expensive or fancy, just inviting God into your space in a more deliberate way.
