Careless Throws, Intentional Soil

In the Parable of the Sower in today's Gospel from Matthew, Jesus describes a man who throws seed rather carelessly. This sower’s seed ends up consumed by birds, shriveled on rocky ground, and choked by thorns. Only some of the seed happens to fall on rich soil where it produces fruit.

Sisters, I desire the Holy Spirit to bear fruit in my life, and if I desire this then I must allow the Holy Spirit to be my sower. The Holy Spirit does not move carelessly in our lives. He moves with purpose and He plants us where we will bear the fruit that He has called us to bear in unity with the Father and the Son.

When we cooperate with the Holy Spirit, we will bear fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

By the power of the Holy Spirit we will become walking reflections of our merciful Savior. By the power of the Holy Spirit we will trust in the Lord, and we will not become discouraged. By the power of the Holy Spirit we will proclaim the Gospel and speak truth into the lives of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

May we continue to pray for our outpouring of the Holy Spirit and allow Him to root us in rich soil where we will bear fruit for the Kingdom of God.
