Just last week I woke up with a new awareness of my life that has been present for awhile, but I just hadn’t seen so clearly. As my eyes opened I also seemed to internally survey my life and recognize that I have truly received so many of the things that, for years and years, I have been waiting and longing and praying for.
After numerous years of struggling with chronic illness and begging God for healing, I have more strength and new life within me. I have received deep and true friendships that center on mutuality and support and journeying together. Though unfortunate circumstances led to an unexpected and sudden move, I now live in a place of great beauty, peace, and sunshine which is becoming more my home than where I was raised.
After years and years of waiting and praying, I am in a deep relationship with a man with whom I share life and love and joy. I am realizing that through faithfulness to God, I am truly cultivating the life I have wanted—the life that God Himself gives and desires for me, too.
“For the vision still has its time, presses on to fulfillment, and will not disappoint; If it delays, wait for it, it will surely come, it will not be late.” (Habakkuk 2:3)
Before, I couldn’t see the vision. I couldn’t see that what I wanted and needed would actually happen for me as well. It had already seemed too late. Too many years had already gone by, and still many more years passed, until this recent experience of waking up and recognizing what I now have received in God’s timing.
Even in the midst of these gifts I am receiving, there is still so much waiting required of me and continued hope for the fulfillment of God's promises. The words in today's First Reading call us on to hope, but also to have faith. With a little mustard seed of faith “nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20)
