There’s a quiet tension in waiting for God to act after He’s already spoken. I’ve been there and often find myself there—praying, sensing a promise or a direction from the Lord—and then I wake up the next day to . . . nothing having changed. The circumstances look the same. The ache is still there. And in that space, it’s so easy to start questioning: Did I hear Him right? Did I make that up? Faith, I’ve realized, isn’t just believing that God can act; it’s trusting that His word is already at work, even when I can’t yet see the result.
In today’s Gospel, a royal official comes to Jesus pleading for his dying son. He begs Jesus to come with him, but instead, Jesus simply says, “You may go; your son will live” (John 4:50). That’s it—no sign, no journey together, just a sentence to cling to. And the Gospel says, “The man believed what Jesus said to him and left” (John 4:50). That line always stops me. He had to walk the whole road home holding nothing but a promise. Yet, somewhere along the way, before he even reached his house, the miracle had already begun.
That’s what real faith looks like, not certainty that we understand everything, but quiet confidence in the One Who speaks. The man’s belief didn’t make the miracle happen, but it allowed him to walk in peace while it was unfolding.
Sister, may we learn to take Jesus at His word, to walk forward before the proof appears, trusting that when He speaks life, life is already on its way. For even when we can’t see it yet, His word never goes unfulfilled.
