Be a good, quiet girl because nobody likes a loud girl, I was told.
Wow, you sure are eating that bowl of cereal pretty fast! Slow down there, I heard in passing.
I just wanted to send you a message. I met someone and we decided to pursue a relationship. You seem like a cool gal, but I just thought it was only fair to let you know instead of just ending the conversation, he messaged me.
Each of these situations led me to hide and feel an inward sense of shame. Shame leads to hiding because we believe the lies about who we are and who God is.
Shame. The oldest trick in the book and the one Satan uses to use to throw us off.
God is walking in the garden, looking and calling to Adam. Only then does Adam realize what he has done in disobeying God. This realization leads him to hide from God, and we see shame first enter the heart of mankind. (Genesis 3:8)
But through our Baptism, we have authority in Jesus' name. We have the power to speak truth to lies we have believed. In the name of Jesus, we can renounce a spirit of shame. The name of Jesus always carries His presence. And His name can break the power of lies and shame.
Are you carrying shame that leads you to hide from God?
My sister, Jesus Christ did not die on the Cross for you to drag that around behind you. He wants you to be free from it!

Take time to recall instances where shame has led you to hide from Jesus. Ask Jesus to speak His truth into these situations or memories. Jesus, what is Your truth for me in ____________ ?
