The Fruit of Communion Rachel shared a profound truth: when we're truly in communion with God, mission naturally becomes the fruit of that relationship. It's like when you're spending time with Jesus, soaking in His presence, you can't help but want to share it with others. It's not an extra chore; it's an outpouring of the life of God within us. "The life of God that's in us through our baptism begins to grow, and as we're transformed into the image of Christ, it's like a champagne bottle that's been shaken up—it's coming out of me!" Imagine waking up every day, eager to see who God has placed in your path. This isn't about scheduling mission into your calendar; it's about letting your transformed heart naturally pour out into others. Linking Mission and Identity We discussed how mission and identity as disciples are intertwined. Yet, it's not always easy. Sometimes, sharing our faith doesn't feel natural. So how do we cultivate this desire? Practical Steps to Embrace Mission Prayer: In your daily prayer, take a moment to ask God for the desire to be a missionary disciple. Ask for the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is our guide in evangelization. Every day, ask for more of the Holy Spirit. It's a powerful reminder that God's mission finds us as we live life together, empowered by the Spirit. Rachel reminded us that the apostles were just living life, and God's mission found them. They didn't have a step-by-step plan; they followed the Spirit's lead. It's a beautiful, stumbling journey into mission. Liz Kelly Liz (Elizabeth) Kelly, a native Minnesotan, is a noted speaker, retreat leader and award-winning author, whose works include short stories, arts and music reviews, books on prayer and worship, and meditations on faith, spiritual struggle, and Christian womanhood. She has written seven books, including May Crowning, Mass, and Merton: 50 Reasons I Love Being Catholic, which won the Catholic Press Association first place award for Best Popular Presentation of the Faith in 2007. She is also the author of “The Wind,” a short story nominated for the Pushcart Prize in 2001. Kelly contributes to various periodicals, including Our Sunday Visitor, and her written works frequently appear in the Magnificat’s Lenten and Advent Companions. Her monthly column, “Your Heart, His Home,” is published throughout the United States. Kelly’s newest book, Jesus Approaches: What Contemporary Women Can Learn about Healing, Freedom and Joy from the Women of the New Testament, is a compelling and practical guide to healing and immersive prayer.
