Act of Love

O Lord God, I love you above all things
and I love my neighbor for your sake
because you are the highest, infinite and perfect
good, worthy of all my love.
In this love I intend to live and die.

Reflect

God is worthy of all my love. Everything I have to share and give, He deserves. My whole heart.

What surprises me when I pray this is that my relationship with God is related to my relationship with my neighbor. God is perfection! God is my Father and Creator. Of course He deserves my love.

But my neighbor? She has a barking dog and loves to make small talk when I’m scrambling to get all the kids in the van. She’s, well, human. But we are directed to love our neighbor for Your sake, God.

Giving God His due as my wonderful God doesn’t stop with adoring Him. That love spills out into all my relationships. Thank You, God, for being the wellspring of love in my life. Thank You for teaching me to love.

Act

Pray this Act of Love all day today. Pray it, hum it, chant it. Let it sink into your arteries and flow back to your heart:
