Week Two // Veni Creator Spiritus
Come, Holy Spirit, Creator blest,
and in our souls take up Thy rest;
come with Thy grace and heavenly aid
to fill the hearts which Thou hast made.
O comforter, to Thee we cry,
O heavenly gift of God Most High,
O fount of life and fire of love,
and sweet anointing from above.
Thou in Thy sevenfold gifts are known;
Thou, finger of God's hand we own;
Thou, promise of the Father, Thou
Who dost the tongue with power imbue.
Kindle our sense from above,
and make our hearts o'erflow with love;
with patience firm and virtue high
the weakness of our flesh supply.
Far from us drive the foe we dread,
and grant us Thy peace instead;
so shall we not, with Thee for guide,
turn from the path of life aside.
Oh, may Thy grace on us bestow
the Father and the Son to know;
and Thee, through endless times confessed,
of both the eternal Spirit blest.
Now to the Father and the Son,
Who rose from death, be glory given,
with Thou, O Holy Comforter,
henceforth by all in earth and heaven.
Amen.
Week Two Intention
We pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our families.
Week Two // Day Two
O comforter, to Thee we cry,
O heavenly gift of God Most High,
O fount of life and fire of love,
and sweet anointing from above.
When I read this second verse of “Veni Creator Spiritus,” the image of Saint Mary—the sister of Martha and Lazarus—anointing Jesus’ Feet in the Gospel of John comes to mind (John 12:1-8). Mary, in pure and holy love for Jesus, is moved to anoint Jesus’ feet with costly ointment. She humbly and lovingly wipes His Feet with her hair, and the room becomes filled with the sweet fragrance of pure nard. St. Mary was filled with the fire of God’s love and because of that, was able to transform her passionate love of Jesus into action, into a work of charity.
When we spend time with the Holy Spirit and when we set aside time to call upon His name and breathe in His presence, we begin to develop a relationship with our Great Comforter. As we build a relationship, our trust in the Third Person of the Trinity grows and is solidified. Our hearts become filled with love, a blazing fire of love, and we are able to turn our passions into action. The Holy Spirit always brings life. He breathes life into our holy desires and prompts us to take action, to live our life of faith in charity.
Fill the world with the beautiful aroma of the Holy Spirit. When we trust the Holy Spirit, we are able to work miracles in His name. We begin to breathe life into others and spread His sweet, healing fragrance. We are able to fall to the ground at the feet of our neighbor in need, and serve them in humility and love.
Implement the one thing that you wrote down yesterday with your prayer partner that will make your soul more at peace. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you strength and courage to carry out what He is asking you to do. At the end of the day, reflect on how implementing this made you feel.
Prayer + Discussion for Prayer Partners
Read John 12:1-8 together. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to each of you the person in your life He is asking you to bring His comfort and His sweet and gentle fragrance. Say a prayer from your heart for this person.
