God writes our stories. Past, present, and future. He's the best author, amen?!
But it's also okay to question why things happen.
When we read in the Acts of the Apostles that the suffering Jesus endures was "what [God's] hand and will had long ago planned to take place" (Acts 4:28), it makes me wonder about the Lord's knowing I would be born out of wedlock, I would be betrayed by my father, and my brother would suffer the way he has. Why did the Lord plan for all of this in my life if His desires for us are holy marriages, holy parents, a life of joy?
Girl, I get it if you wonder, too. I understand being in a place of honest and raw face-to-face conversation with Jesus about your life story. Oh and if you haven't tried it, please don't be afraid of revealing your doubt to Him. Those hard questions are what make our relationship with Him real and authentic.
Today Our Lord reminds us that He is sovereign. We can freely resist God’s will for our lives, which often leads to our own suffering and that of others. Yet because He is sovereign, God can bring good out of anything. I mean anything. Sometimes the goodness God wants to give us is impeded because we resist receiving it. So the Lord respects that. He won't impose anything on you without your consent.
The Lord's sovereignty is for you. Be bold and receive it.
His sovereignty is His mercy.
His sovereignty is His healing.
His sovereignty is His abundance.

Lord Jesus, help me be bold.
