Prayer Pledge // Day 6

prayer pledge 2019 new year new pentecost

Week Two // Veni Creator Spiritus

Come, Holy Spirit, Creator blest,
and in our souls take up Thy rest;
come with Thy grace and heavenly aid
to fill the hearts which Thou hast made.

O comforter, to Thee we cry,
O heavenly gift of God Most High,
O fount of life and fire of love,
and sweet anointing from above.

Thou in Thy sevenfold gifts are known;
Thou, finger of God’s hand we own;
Thou, promise of the Father, Thou
Who dost the tongue with power imbue.

Kindle our sense from above,
and make our hearts o’erflow with love;
with patience firm and virtue high
the weakness of our flesh supply.

Far from us drive the foe we dread,
and grant us Thy peace instead;
so shall we not, with Thee for guide,
turn from the path of life aside.

Oh, may Thy grace on us bestow
the Father and the Son to know;
and Thee, through endless times confessed,
of both the eternal Spirit blest.

Now to the Father and the Son,
Who rose from death, be glory given,
with Thou, O Holy Comforter,
henceforth by all in earth and heaven.
Amen.

The Church proclaims the Holy Spirit as the “Giver of Life.” Just as the Son of God is conceived through the Holy Spirit’s mysterious intervention (Luke 1:35), so too, life is given to us through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit continues breathing life into us any time that we invite Him to enter into our heart, the heart that He helped form and create.

Pope St. John Paul II taught that the Holy Spirit “is the eternal source of every gift that comes from God.” The Holy Spirit always gifts us with peace. He is ever ready to outpour love upon us. Every gift—even (and especially!) the ultimate gift of the Incarnation—comes from the love of the Spirit. Let the Holy Spirit lavish you with His gifts and breathe life into you.

This week, let us work towards trusting the Holy Spirit. We can begin to trust Him by spending time with Him. When we place our trust in the Holy Spirit, we are better able to communicate our needs, desires, dreams, wants, and yearnings to Him.

Sisters, the Holy Spirit desires your beauty. The Holy Spirit seeks a resting place within your heart. We must trust that He will never hurt us; we must trust that He is here to help us. The Holy Spirit will bring us freedom, joy, and life when we place our trust in Him.

We may often find ourselves tired, overwhelmed, and troubled. During those times, let us call upon the Holy Spirit, the Spirit who always brings hope and love. The Holy Spirit gives us life and life in abundance (John 10:10). The Holy Spirit offers a pure and safe love—a love that we can fully rest in. He yearns to reside in our heart. He wants to overshadow us with His love, just as He did Mother Mary. Rest in His love.

Take three minutes today to rest in silence with the Holy Spirit. Do not feel like you have to speak. Just simply tell the Holy Spirit that you want to be with Him for the next three minutes. Invite Him to dwell in your heart, and let Him breathe life into you.

Prayer + Discussion for Prayer Partners

What is one thing you can do today that will help make your soul more at peace? Is it turning off your phone for the rest of the day? Is it saying a morning offering? Is it asking forgiveness from a friend? Share with your prayer partner what that one thing is.
