The Effects of Hope // Peace of Heart
In 2020, while I was pregnant with our youngest child and during the peak of COVID, God asked our family to leave everything behind in California and move to Texas. California had been the only place I had ever lived. It was the only home I knew—where I felt security and comfort. We would be leaving family, close friends, my dream job, and our beloved yellow house that had been filled with memories.
I wasn’t exactly happy about this decision, but I knew God was calling us to take a leap of faith, and so I begrudgingly accepted. I remember when we initially went to look at homes in Texas and found our dream house, but I was torn inside. It was an exciting process but I was super emotional because I didn’t really know which was my home anymore.
Despite all this, we moved forward with the move. While there was immense sadness, there was also peace in my heart. I had so many hopes about what God had in store for our family. I knew there were reasons why Our Lord was asking us to move and I decided to believe that His plans were good. We had hope in God’s promises to us: promises of good friendships, a wonderful school for our children, a beautiful home, and even more opportunities for growth and ministry. There was a sense of freedom and safety in entrusting our future to the Lord and we wanted to thank Him with our obedience. And let me tell you: He did not hold back on those promises.
We have found a wonderful community to journey with and a safe haven for our kids. We have been blessed beyond measure with God’s providence. Despite my initial hesitations, I’ve become more comfortable with trusting that sense of peace I feel deep in my heart when I am living according to God’s will. And our Father has proven, time and time again, that He is trustworthy and that He will keep His promises.
Let Us Pray
Jesus, we trust in You. Help us to honor Your good plans for us by giving You our full obedience. Grant us the peace of heart for which we so long, and which can only be found in closeness to You and submission to Your will. Amen!
