In His Heart: The 2020 Prayer Pledge // Day 2

catechism of the catholic church sacred heart of jesus

The heart has been a poetic symbol across centuries and cultures. Phrases like, "I love you with my whole heart," "My heart is broken," and "I put my heart into this" are common expressions we use. When we speak of the "heart," we refer to the deepest part of someone. The core of who they are.

The human heart is capable of experiencing overwhelming happiness and crippling grief; unconditional love and bitter betrayal.

And when the Word was made flesh, He took on a human heart.

He has loved us all with a human heart.

The Church tells us that Jesus has loved us with a sacred, human heart. When He took on our flesh, He took on our hearts. And this changes everything.

He knows the movements of our hearts in their trials and in their joys. His Heart beat like ours. His Heart broke like ours. The Sacred Heart of Jesus is the core of who He is. And He gives His whole Heart to us.

Today, let's spend time reflecting on the deep desire Jesus has for us. We are eternally loved, sisters. He pours out His heart for us because He finds it worth it in order to draw us to Himself. Let's not delay. Like John the Apostle at the Last Supper, let's recline at Jesus' chest, resting with the rhythmic beat of His Sacred Heart.

He knows the movements of our hearts in their trials and in their joys. His Heart beat like ours. His Heart broke like ours. #BISblog #prayerpledge //Click to tweet Twitter

Let Us Pray

Jesus, when you appeared to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, You said: "Behold the Heart that has so loved men that it has spared nothing...in order to testify to Its love..."

Thank You, Jesus, for Your unending love for us. Thank You for how You have revealed Your Heart for us throughout all of Scripture, particularly when Your Heart was pierced and poured out on the Cross.

We are so grateful that You chose to take on a human heart that so deeply understands the movements of our own. We love You, Lord; help us to love You more this day. Your Heart is our home. Amen.

For Discussion

Look back at the last few months of your life. What peaks and valleys has your heart experienced? Ask the Lord to show you where His Heart was in those moments.

How can you love on Jesus' Heart today? How can you share the love in your own heart for Him?
