There’s a song I have been listening to on repeat lately. The title and lyrics sing of “the secret place,” of a place to run to, a place where the Lord—our rock, our hope—is always there, waiting for us. My vision of this place leapt to my mind when I read:
“O Lord my God, in You I take refuge.” Psalm 7:1
This is a simple Scripture. One I have heard many times over the course of my Christian life.
Yet as I pray into it, I am deeply moved by one tiny word: “in.” In You I take refuge. Not with, but in You. This preposition just might be the key to unlock the door which leads to this place of deeper intimacy with the Lord. The kind we experience in His true presence.
In the Lord’s gaze.
This is where we find a secure dwelling. This is where we find safety from the snares of the world, where our hearts are protected from harm.
Can you sense how beautifully intimate this is, sisters? And how personally He longs for your heart? The Lord desires to be so close to us. He wraps us in His arms. He holds us in His Most Sacred Heart. He calls us ever deeper, ever further into relationship with Him.
As the end of Lent draws nearer, find a few minutes to run away with the Lord to a secret place. Tell Him the longings of your heart, praise Him for His goodness, or simply rest in His presence.
Allow Him to love you there.
