When Hope Did Not Disappoint
The idea of “living in the moment” sounds blissful, right? Yet sometimes it can be so very hard to do.
I am self-admittedly impatient. This posed a challenge for me when it came to my husband and I planning to start our family. I couldn’t wait for the day when I would hold a positive pregnancy test in my hand and began to plan how I’d share the news with my husband. So when one month of trying turned into another month and another month, I didn’t really feel like remaining in the present. Instead, I started to panic.
Then, in time, our beautiful daughter did enter into our lives. You would think I would have learned my lesson to hope, trust, and live in the moment, right? Well, I didn’t.
As our daughter started to grow, my husband and I were again ready to grow our family even more. This time, it took even longer. I tried so hard to hope, I prayed so hard to hope, but still, hope was hard to come by.
Again, after several months, our hearts rejoiced when we learned that another child would be joining our family. Just days after receiving this blessed news, I received a care package from a friend of mine. The theme? Hope! She sent me a beautifully-curated box filled with items to instill hope into my soul. It was as if God was reminding me, “Hey, I’ve got you. I see you. You have to remember that I am always holding you and I have not forgotten you.”
Can I say that I won’t ever struggle with hope again? Unfortunately, I cannot. But what I can say is that I have seen how God has literally sent hope to my doorstep, and that was only a glimpse of the kind of hope He desires me to have. In the words of Fulton Sheen:
to hope in Him is to rest in His heart in patience amidst trials and tribulations.
With this in mind, I continue to pray for the grace to truly rest within the warmth of His heart.
Let Us Pray
Lord Jesus, thank You for the subtle ways You send us reminders to hope in You. Thank You for sending us messengers of hope when we need it the most. May we always be on the lookout for Your reach out. Amen!
