Song about God's Heart for Us
Listen to "Pieces" by Amanda Cook.
Reflect
The song we are reflecting today is one of my top three favorite worship songs. A few months ago, I was flying home from the Southern BIS Shine Retreat when I had a powerful encounter with God on the airplane as I was listening to this song.
I was watching a little girl (perhaps 1-2 years old) playing with her daddy. She was completely enamored by him; giggling and smiling as she touched his face. She patted her hands with delight as her daddy taught her patty-cake. I watched the scene unfold a few aisles back.
In my heart a gentle voice, “Do you see how secure she is in her Papa?”
Yeah, so what? (I am sometimes a very frank with God in prayer.)
“I want you to be that secure in Me. I ache for you to be that secure with Me in all things.”
I was in shock of what I just heard spoken over me. What struck me was the word “Papa,” because I have struggled to relate to God as Father with childhood wounds from my own earthly father. I closed my eyes, leaned forward, and began to weep. In my heart, I started repenting of all the ways in my life that I am not secure in my Papa Father. For the first time, I began to personally experience what it means to know God as my Father. My Papa.
We all struggle with the lie that God withholds from or is holding out on us.
But a good Father does not give His Heart in pieces. He gives us every single part of His Heart, His presence. It is all ours for the taking, we only need to ask and receive.
Let Us Pray
Jesus, every sacred part of Your Heart is open to me. Your greatest desire is that I would press in closer, lean in, and let myself be loved and known by Your Heart. Teach me what security in You looks like in all areas of my life. Amen.
For Discussion
Is there an area in your life where you feel God is holding out or withholding from you? Ask Jesus what He has to say to you about that.
How would your heart and life change if you believed that Jesus loves you completely and delights in you?
