Why does God call us to intimacy, away from everything and everyone to a secluded place alone with Him?
Though He loves each of us as though we are the only being in existence, He does not love us selfishly or for Himself. He does not love us in order to receive anything in return. His love is unconditional—freely given with no strings attached.
So, why does He do this? Church Teaching derived from the authority of Jesus and the Apostles answers:
“The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw man to himself. Only in God will he find the truth and happiness he never stops searching for:
The dignity of man rests above all on the fact that he is called to communion with God. This invitation to converse with God is addressed to man as soon as he comes into being. For if man exists it is because God has created him through love, and through love continues to hold him in existence. He cannot live fully according to truth unless he freely acknowledges that love and entrusts himself to his creator.” CCC § 27
In other words, God calls us unceasingly because it is only in an intimate relationship with Him that we can find happiness, fulfillment, and peace.
The Divine Engineer created mankind in His own image and likeness; like the Trinity, we are wired for deep-seated relationship and undying love. Whether consciously or subconsciously, each of us knows this. We seek it in all we do, too often in the wrong places. So, God perpetually calls to us, reminding us that every invention comes with a manual providing instructions for proper use and care. Logically, these directions come from its manufacturer, as it is the creator who has the best understanding of the creation.
Our Divine Manufacturer goes above and beyond the efforts of earthly creators. He calls, and calls, and calls to us, His lovely creation—that we may experience the happiness for which we were created.

O Lord, Your care and devotion are unmatched. We are unworthy of any of it. Yet, in Your eyes, we are lovely and loved. We thank You for Your endless pursuit of our feeble hearts. Grant us the grace to respond, and to grow in steadfast love and devotion to You. Amen.

Reflect on your daily routine. Is there time set aside specifically for time with the Lord, the intimacy for which we were created?
Are there places apart from God you are seeking happiness? Reflect on the fruits of those efforts.
