God Doesn't Call the Qualified
God Doesn't Call the Qualified - Blessed Is She

Have you ever doubted the voice of God calling you to do something? I felt that way the first time I felt God clearly call me to pray with a woman in the grocery store. Very clearly I felt she would wear glasses, have curly hair, and possibly be African American or Hispanic.

How funny I felt internally walking through Kroger, "Is this her, Lord? Is the woman to approach?" each time I saw a woman who fit that description. Then, in the produce section by the strawberries, I again asked the question.

"Yes, she is the one," I sensed. I prayed with this woman right next to the strawberry display, and later with her husband for healing of his leg.

I have to imagine Gideon felt a similar way as he tried to figure out why the heck God called him to save Israel from the Midianites.

When God calls Gideon, He reminds him of Who is sending him. Uncertain and hesitant, Gideon objects to this call by recounting his lack of qualifications to be a leader: "Wait, are you sure you want me? God, what are you doing? I am from the smallest clan in a little tribe. There are so many who could accomplish this better than me. Umm, you want me to do WHAT!?"

And yet, this is why God chose Gideon. God wanted an unlikely hero to come along and free Israel so that when the Israelites saw this little man from a little clan, they’d know that the only way he could’ve beat such an overwhelming force was through the mighty power of God.

How often at different times in life have each of us felt like Gideon? Hesitant about what God is asking of us or calling us to. Unsure. Hesitant. Perhaps even insecure or doubtful. Where is God stretching you in your life, like He did with Gideon? Can you trust where God is leading you?

Remember, God does not call the qualified. He always, always qualifies those He has called.
