Jesus looked up.
Jesus noticed.
Jesus saw the poor widow.

She was alone.

She used to have more.
She missed her husband.
She was unsure about her future.

The two little coins are safe in her hand.

Maybe someone gave them to her in charity?
Maybe she earned them through hard work?
Maybe it was the last of her savings?

And then comes her choice.

How much could she give?
How much should she give?
How much is too much?

Her heart is generous.

Where did she learn this kind of confidence?
Where did she learn this kind of trust?
Where did she learn this kind of love?

She does not hesitate.

Yes, the offering is small.
Yes, she wishes it was more.
Yes, she knows that giving it will hurt.

The money falls from her hand into the treasury.

It is her gift.
It is less.
It is more than the rest.

And Jesus notices her.

Her generosity is humble.
Her generosity is hidden.
Her generosity consoles His heart.

Now Jesus looks up at me.

He calls me by name.
He reminds me of my identity.
He reveals my mission.

I am not alone.

I am the beloved daughter through Baptism.
I am strengthened through Confirmation.
I am united to Him in Holy Communion.

I am safe in His care.

He will show me how to be generous today.
He will guide me on my path to holiness.
He will teach me how to offer my whole life.

Jesus, from my poverty, I give you everything!

Ask Jesus to give you the grace of a generous heart today. Be attentive to how He might invite you to give more than all the rest. Let Him teach you to love in humble and hidden ways.
