Jesus says “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.” As we take His words and look then at The Word of God for today in the Old Testament,we see such clear commands about how we are to act in a practical daily life. Today’s Psalm gives us such a perfect prayer as we implore our Lord to bring our lives in line with those commands He gives, to allow God to direct our hearts like He directs the streams of this earth, and to judge our ways according to that which is right in God’s eyes rather than our own.
We are called
To do what is right and just,
To be blameless
to listen to the call of the poor
to turn away from pride
to be honest
to desire good
to learn from our mistakes.
We make choices every minute of every day, and we need God’s guidance to make the right choices. Our actions are so important because it is through our acts that we declare ourselves as part of Christ’s intimate family.
Upon waking, often do you declare your day for our Lord? Do you invite Him to guide your life? Before responding to the daily frustrations, do you pause first and ask for His guidance? Do you teach your children to count to ten or do you teach them to breathe in the Holy Spirit and ask for His guidance before they respond?
