Let’s get to know each other a bit more, as sisters in Christ.
Feel free to share your answers to these questions in on our Instagram post and/or your own Instagram post, tagging #BISsisterhood.
Elise Howe is a devoted wife, new momma and musician living in New York City, though she will always be a Midwestern gal at heart. She adores her Catholic faith, great music, great books, and dark chocolate. She invites you to join her at In Endless Song.
Do you have a special Saint that you feel a strong connection to? How so?
I feel a strong connection to Saint Gianna. Her life is such a beautiful witness for me as a woman, wife, and mother.
My devotion to her really started when my husband and I asked for her intercession when we found out we might lose our first child to a miscarriage. When we found out our baby had indeed gone to heaven, I found consolation with St. Gianna, who suffered two miscarriages herself.
I am currently reading The Journey of Our Love: The Letters of Saint Gianna Beretta and Pietro Molla. It gives a glimpse into the incredible love of God this couple shared, and has been such an inspiration for me. I highly recommend it.
St. Gianna's feast day is coming up on April 28. I love to celebrate with an Italian dinner and gelato!
What keeps you Catholic?
The sacrament of the Eucharist. Christ's desire to be present to me (and to each of us) in this most intimate way has been an unspeakable blessing in my life. Spending time with Christ in adoration has been another great gift on my spiritual journey. I don't get to visit Him in adoration as often as I would like in this season of my life. Whenever I do, though, I am struck by how amazing it is that Jesus is always waiting for us to visit Him.
What do you find yourself continually praying for?
I continually find myself praying that my heart would desire to love more than to be loved. It's like the line from the Saint Francis peace prayer, which also reminds us that it is in giving that we receive. Christ came into the world not to be served, but to serve [Matthew 20:28], and I need a lot of His grace to be more like Him in this way.
