Today's Gospel passage shakes me; it makes me nervous. I read it and pray, "Oh shoot, Jesus! Save me from myself!"
My days are filled with excuses. Groceries to put away, dinner to begin, kids to get to school, laundry to ignore. I have this family, this house, and these volunteer activities—all good things—that I must attend to! I am too busy to suffer, to pray, to adore, to confess—or at least too busy to do them as well and as often as I ought. Sometimes, if I am being honest, I am too busy to love God.
I know that this is my vocation—this is the life God has called me to live and to honor Him I try to live it well. But He has still invited me to a banquet—to something beyond the marriage, family, and life He has called me to. There are even more good things that He wants to give me.
Friends, I do not want to be left behind. The servant told the master that there was still room and I am desperate to be one of those who fills the Master's house.
Time is not out. I still have a chance to accept the invitation, as do you.
Let us go.
