Everything changes except God. He is the same, now and forever. This reality challenges us to embrace rather than resist change, trusting the Lord to be present through it all.
Letting God Soften the Hard Parts
Sometimes what changes is us, and this should be a cause for hope. In a recent Teachable Tuesday session, Jenna Guizar offers a personal example of God's grace changing her to the core. She explains that over the last few years, the Lord taught her to love motherhood in a way she never thought was possible.
"That's been a beautiful maturing that has happened in my heart and in my soul, where I'm realizing that God can change me," she reflects. "I didn't know that that was possible, to be changed to my core." She describes this as a soft movement, as if God simply "dusted away" the hardened parts of her heart, making her more gentle.
As we surrender to God's work in our lives, the true essence of who we are becomes revealed. We are masterpieces in the making, the loving hand of the Divine Artist constantly refining us.
Intentional Rather Than Passive Change
Other times, change feels less welcome. Perhaps other people in our lives who are changing, even as we are ourselves. As both parties in the relationship change, we may be growing into versions of ourselves that are farther and farther apart, creating a distance that is uncomfortable and painful.
"The reality is," Beth Davis notes in the same Teachable Tuesday, "we are all always changing," even if we do not always notice it happening.
We are changing, whether we like it or not. Yet we can let the currents of life carry us away or we can change intentionally, growing towards the Lord. Spiritual formation and Scripture can be rocks for us as we allow God to shape us into the people He desires us to be.
Embracing the Seasons of Life
Still, His presence is constant, unchanging amidst the ever-evolving landscape of our lives. Beth envisions life as a field and God as the farmer, attentive in every season. "This season is a good season," she encourages. "No matter what season it is, this season is a good season."
Rain or shine, may we embrace change with open hearts, trusting in the power of God's unwavering love. Let us be open to the ways He is already molding us. In every time and place, He knows what He is about.
