My restless heart settled as I heard this line today in the reading, "do not let your hearts be troubled." (John 14:1) All the anxieties and worries - what will happen after graduation, where will I move when my lease is up, how will my child do transitioning into a new school year, how will I manage all the kids home this summer, what will I do about my aging father. We have so many things that we naturally want to figure out - we worry.
But He says to us today, "do not let your hearts be troubled." He speaks to us there and tells us that He is already in that moment we're worried about. He is there. And then my friend pointed me to the line where He says, "why would I say these things if they weren't true?"
Jesus knows that even though He tell us to not be troubled, we don't want to believe and let go. So He reminds us that he's not just saying this to get us off His back.
