The Second Luminous Mystery // The Wedding Feast at Cana
Fruit of the Mystery // To Jesus through Mary
Reflect
During my third pregnancy I felt Mary’s fiat repeating in prayer. Her humble “yes” to everything that unfolded in her life in being the mother of Our Savior and King left me contemplating the areas of my life where I had delayed or stifled saying “yes” out of worry or doubt.
During the white elephant exchange at our local Blessed is She Christmas brunch, I unwrapped a beautiful statue depicting an expectant Mary. It brought me to tears and I was completely moved. We hadn’t shared the news yet with anyone. I immediately heard the words of Mary’s Magnificat reverberate throughout my pregnant body. “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my savior…”
I suddenly felt immersed into Mary’s fiat and went outside of the typical first trimester waiting period to share the news.
I had entrusted this pregnancy to Our Blessed Mother and was once again asking for another V-BAC if it was God’s will. The wound of my C-section that had happened almost 5 years ago was resurfacing again and thoughts of doubt started to settle in. I needed Our Blessed Mother’s intercession to help me remember that her Son would take care of me.
Our Blessed Mother has every intention of bringing us closer to her Son and wants us to know Him, love Him, and serve Him. She rightfully takes her place as Queen of Heaven, but it is through her that Jesus hears our prayers. She makes our humble offering even better and multiplies it. She bridges the gap for us when we don’t know how to walk closer to her Son. She sees a need and she takes care of it for us. That’s her maternal love for us. It’s probably not a coincidence that Jesus performed his first miracle at the Wedding Feast of Cana under the request of His mother. She saw a need (they ran out of wine). She then goes to her Son (to Jesus through Mary) to intercede on behalf of the wedding party, she instructs the servants, “do whatever He tells you” (John 2:5).
We need our Heavenly Queen to intercede for us and make our humble offerings of prayer and petition better than what we could do alone. She is a good, good mother working behind the scenes in our daily lives working to bring us closer to her Son.
Let Us Pray
To Jesus through Mary we pray to have pure hearts like Our Blessed Mother. To Jesus through Mary we ask to give our daily fiat. To Jesus through Mary we ask for her loving protection against the enemy who plants doubt in our minds and causes us to lose our peace. To Jesus through Mary may we always remember Our Mother wants to reconcile us to her Son. Amen.
For Discussion
It is through Our Blessed Mother that we come to know Jesus even better. How can you ask Our Blessed Mother to draw you closer to her Son?
If Mary remains a mystery to you, how can you learn more about her and what the Church teaches on Our Blessed Mother?
