Reflect

I walk with my friend. We’re set on finally finding Jesus. We’ve heard Him speak. We’ve seen Him heal. If only we could get close enough…

Our illnesses are different. Hers is apparent, while mine is hidden. But we have found companionship in our plight with chronic illness.

As we walk, a crowd forms. Jesus is just up ahead, and we try to keep up. I quietly reflect on all I have endured: multiple doctor appointments, protocols, and supplements. Everyday, I live with fatigue, inflammation, and pain. This is coupled with the pressure to appear “put together” and the shame of falling short.

Yes, if only Jesus would heal me! I’d finally feel better, and no longer worse.

As I inch my way through the throng, I notice my friend is right behind Jesus! Suddenly, He stops, and a hush moves over the crowd.

“Who touched my garments?” Jesus asks (Mark 5:30).

I hear my friend speak. She tells Jesus everything. His eyes, so full of love, look intently at my friend.

“Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”

As Jesus turns to walk on, He sees me. And a big smile spreads across His face. His eyes sparkle, as He looks right into my soul. I don’t need to say a word; He knows.

“Take heart, daughter” (Matthew 9:22).

And those three words speak volumes to my weary soul. They tell me that He has healing for me, too, but it is different than I imagine. It is better. Those three little words ask, “Do you trust Me?”

And I nod. “Yes, Lord, I trust Your desire to heal me to the fullest.”

Jesus returns my nod and smiles. Peace restores my soul.

My friend turns to me, her face so serene. We link arms and head home, knowing He have both experienced the healing love of Jesus. We are only two of many that receive His words, actions, commands, and yes, miracles. All of which clearly manifest His love for us.

Let Us Pray

Lord, there are so many stories of Your healing and merciful love. They give me hope and increase my trust in Your unique plan for healing me—physically and spiritually. Amen.
