Your Heart's Yearnings

Envy is an ugly thing. I would know as I have felt it and have given it permission to dwell in me many times throughout my life. "Real talk" button is turning on right now, sister! We all need more authenticity in our lives.

One of the biggest reasons for why I have fallen into envy has been another woman's beauty. Sometimes it's her appearance. Sometimes the way she captivates men. Sometimes her personality, and to be quite frank, sometimes her whole being. Gosh! What nakedness I feel in sharing this with all of you, but truly, let's bring this all to the light, in the name of Jesus! It is when we keep our wounds in the dark that they can't heal.

The devil desires to use our inherent human beauty and our desire for it to be known to make us sin, to curse each other with envy. We see this clearly with Joseph's brother plotting to kill him because they were envious that Joseph was so loved by their father. I bet we have all been the brothers and we at some point have been Joseph. Either position provides an opportunity for great honesty with God.

I challenge us all to take a look deep inside our hearts next time we fall into envying another woman. What might it be revealing about ourselves? About the things we yearn for in us and for us? Might you then, also remember that the sister that is the object of your envy in that moment, may also feel the same? And might we remember that the beauty in another person does not in any way take away from our own.
