Collect Prayer for the feast of St. Vincent of Saragossa
Almighty ever-living God, mercifully pour out your Spirit upon us, so that our hearts may possess the strong love by which the Martyr Saint Vincent triumphed over all bodily torments. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Reflect
One of the types of prayer recommended to us in the 1999 Manual of Indulgences revision of the Enchiridion of Indulgences is to recite the Collect (pronounced COL-lect) Prayer from the Roman Missal on a saint’s feast day. There’s a partial indulgence offered for it, in keeping with the usual conditions.
You should hear a saint’s particular Collect at daily Mass if it’s a memorial, feast, or solemnity. For an optional memorial like today’s feast of St. Vincent of Saragossa, the priest has the option to use the saint’s Collect, or the Collect of ordinary time. But you can find particular collects online (I look for them at the liturgical calendar days here) or in a hard copy missal and recite it yourself. It makes an excellent accompaniment to any liturgical living in the home celebrations you might be planning. Especially today, for the patron saint of wine.

Raise a glass today in honor of St. Vincent of Saragossa, deacon and martyr. Ask for his intercession for vineyards and vintners, and for your own intentions.

O Lord, through the example and intercession of St. Vincent, help us to love you even unto death, and to find joy and community in the fruits of the earth. Amen.
