We prayed together and just ate and talked. It was about getting to know the women that were there. What was your feeling going into the Brunch, and what was it coming out of the Brunch? At first, I felt extremely awkward because I was the youngest one there. But eventually I started talking to some of the women and it wasn't so bad. I also met someone close in age and we immediately hit it off. Overall, I had such a fun time and I would gladly do it again. What's next for you personally and/or for the group? I would love to go to more brunches that are near my area to meet more of the women who shares the values of faith and community. What advice do you have for someone who is interested in attending and/or hosting a Blessed Brunch but may be hesitant or fearful? Just go for it, honestly. It will definitely be awkward at first but eventually it will get better. By the end of the day, you will be chatting away! Where did you see God move? I saw God move in the conversations these women were having. The main part (and my favorite!) was the host had the Blessed is She Bible verse cards and had prayed over them and handed them out individually to each of us. Every card spoke to each person. Mine was “God is in your midst,” which is something I had been needing to hear! What was your feeling going into the Brunch, and what was it coming out of the Brunch? I was excited because I knew a lot of the women going into it. While I was there I met someone who lived in the same town I previously had lived in, and we exchanged numbers! What's next for you personally and/or for the group? I’m meeting with the one mom from my old town because we both have very young children and are both relatively new to the area. We’re planning to meet up for a park date! What advice do you have for someone who is interested in attending and/or hosting a Blessed Brunch but may be hesitant or fearful? Just go! It’s always nerve wracking to walk into a new place with new people, but God works in mysterious ways and He just wants you to show up! Say yes! Where did you see God move? I felt seen. As a stay-at-home mom, recently postpartum for the fourth time, it can be hard to feel important and seen. I’ve been working on my prayer life, reading the Bible, and praying the Rosary everyday. I needed to know that God was still with me. Getting that Bible verse at “random” touched me so much and made me feel so special. I know that I’m the daughter of God and felt like He was speaking to me right then, telling me that He saw me and He was with me! Now It's Your Turn! We prayed together and talked about what we love about the Faith. What was your feeling going into the Brunch, and what was it coming out of the Brunch? I was excited to take this step toward meeting other women who are passionate about the Faith. But I was also nervous because I was going alone. Our host was very friendly, though, and there was never pressure to commit to or say more than what was natural in our friendly conversation. And that’s what ultimately happened, friendly discussion with kind women who also love the Lord. What's next for you personally and/or for the group? We talked about touching base later to see about doing a Bible study or book study together. However, because our group was pretty small and from different areas of the city, that may not work out. Regardless, I’m glad the Spirit led me to (finally) take this step. It’s got me considering hosting a Blessed Brunch myself in my own hometown. What advice do you have for someone who is interested in attending and/or hosting a Blessed Brunch but may be hesitant or fearful? Your host and anyone else who attends are guaranteed to have some important things in common with you: love of the Lord, a desire for sisterhood. I went alone, knowing that the other women attending were a different age and in a different phase of life than I am, but I still wanted to go because I wanted to see Christ in them. I am so glad I did! The Lord is indeed at work in their lives, and it made me see new avenues that i could give Him access to in my own. Where did you see God move? Our host in particular was obviously a woman who has given much of her life and heart to the Lord. Of course, my relationship with God will be completely unique. But it was inspiring to see the blessings God has in store for a woman (and family) who puts her heart and life at the foot of the Cross. It gave me courage to see her bold faith. Now It's Your Turn! We shared a little of our personal journey, which opened the conversation between women to support and encourage others at different places. Going into the brunch, I felt that this was one more way in which God had provided to grow in my community with my sisters in Christ. And it was. Leaving, I felt this is what our Catholic community needs more of: local community outside our immediate parish community and to connect with other Catholic women we would otherwise probably never meet. What's next for you personally and/or for the group? We left our emails with the host and plan to stay connected with more brunches. What advice do you have for someone who is interested in attending and/or hosting a Blessed Brunch but may be hesitant or fearful? Trust that this is where God is providing an answer to a prayer and that the other women are looking for the same things you are: connection, fellowship, and comfort that we are not doing this alone. Where did you see God move? There were two women who did not know each other, who both came alone, that actually attend the same parish. That was certainly provided by Him. Half of the women were young and single, the other half were married with children ranging in ages from baby to young adult. This provided some words of encouragement and wisdom from the married women to the singles. The women with children were also able to witness the importance of bringing children to Mass, especially in the younger years when it seems so much harder. Now It's Your Turn! But coming out of it, I can see where God was working to bring this group together. Each of us were seeking community in some form. Looking forward to what's next! What's next for you personally and/or for the group? We decided to have another brunch next month and do a book swap at the next one. We have a Facebook group to plan other get-togethers and will hopefully do small group studies soon. It was a small group of us, but we shared the food we all brought and sat around one table together. I was a little nervous because I was hosting. But afterward, I felt encouraged and recharged. I knew most of the women that came, but I got to know everyone a little bit better. Before the brunch I wanted everything to look great. In the end, what mattered most was how we came together and got to know each other better and share our Faith. We prayed, talked for 5 hours, and had a blast! We did not even get to study Scripture but we delved into deep conversations and new friendships were made. What was your feeling going into the Brunch, and what was it coming out of the Brunch? I was excited. A bit nervous with the desire to have it go well and for women to feel accepted and known. It was lovely to see that everyone stayed and remained engaged in conversation longer than I anticipated they would! What's next for you personally and/or for the group? We all have each other's phone numbers and I think another brunch is on the horizon! What advice do you have for someone who is interested in attending and/or hosting a Blessed Brunch but may be hesitant or fearful? Go for it. Everything will fall into place. Don't worry about the timing, the food, the decorations. Just focus relationships and it will be a beautiful time of fellowship. Where did you see God move? Women who did not know one another were engaged in conversations that would have had you thinking they had been friends for years. We focused on building a community and planned future events (Bible study or video series) for us to get together again. What was your feeling going into the Brunch, and what was it coming out of the Brunch? I was nervous but excited to meet other women in my area who share my Faith. Coming out, it was the best decision to go because I met some wonderful women that I plan to continue to build community with. What's next for you personally and/or for the group? A few of us went to Mass together the next day and we plan on getting together as a group on a regular basis. What advice do you have for someone who is interested in attending and/or hosting a Blessed Brunch but may be hesitant or fearful? Have thirty seconds of courage in order to actually get the nerve to attend. You will be glad you did. I'm a fairly shy person in first meetings, especially when I don't know anyone else. But everyone was so open and ready to involve me and get to know me that it allowed for real discussion and a leap from my comfort zone. Where did you see God move? I moved to Boston a year ago and wasn't able to find community in the parish I attend. I's been a pretty lonely experience. I've been praying for a community to have here. We ate, did a clothing exchange, prayed, and did a coloring the Sacred Heart activity together. Mostly we just talked. What was your feeling going into the Brunch, and what was it coming out of the Brunch? I looked forward to it and it was at least as good as I expected. The ladies are wonderful and there was none of the nonsense I've often seen in other women's groups. Everyone seemed sincere, genuine, and God-centered. What's next for you personally and/or for the group? I may attend another meeting this week! What advice do you have for someone who is interested in attending and/or hosting a Blessed Brunch but may be hesitant or fearful? I'd say there's nothing to be hesitant about. For food, I do recommend selecting a few ladies to bring the food because you might end up with too much. Where did you see God move? Mostly in our conversations. Our hostess made us coffee at her coffee bar, we ate brunch, gathered on the couches, and talked. The hostess started conversation by asking if we were part of other small communities and we spring-boarded from there into our favorite Saints, hobbies, books, etc. What was your feeling going into the Brunch, and what was it coming out of the Brunch? I am new to Houston and went to meet other Catholic ladies. I was a little nervous going alone, but felt good overall. Leaving, I felt great! The discussion sparked side conversations and I met a lady involved with anti-human-trafficking here in Houston, which I'm very interested in. What's next for you personally and/or for the group? Some of us friended one another on Facebook and some swapped numbers. One gal gave me her number and told me about a local young adult group. What advice do you have for someone who is interested in attending and/or hosting a Blessed Brunch but may be hesitant or fearful? It's actually a blessing to go without knowing anyone—your only choice is to meet new people! Where did you see God move? I saw Him in the rarity of sharing a meal together, especially with such a diverse group of women. There were so many different ages, a new convert, different personalities, etc. Now It's Your Turn!
