How do you reconcile your past with your present?
I’ve asked this of myself and a few friends over the years because as much as I’m not the under-age drinking, hookup-chasing, pride-filled shop-a-holic teen/young adult of my past, some of those poor choices still haunt me to this day.
And even now, my shortcomings will rage, and I’ll be reminded that although I’ve come a long way, I still have more growth to achieve.
But I don’t want my life to be about hitting milestones on a spiritual growth chart. I know that the only way to become a saint is to let God love me and my past, present, and future and to accept that God has not reconciled me to myself, but has reconciled me to Jesus, the Spotless One.
Do you feel spiritually immature? Stuck or idle in faith? Tempted by sin that you thought you conquered? Are your past failures, hardships, or anxieties distracting you from presently living wholly for the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:17)?
You’re not alone.
How do you reconcile your past with your present? By acknowledging your failures and reaching out to God Who “has now reconciled you in the fleshly Body of Christ through His death, to present you holy, without blemish, and irreproachable before Him” (Colossians 1:22).
One of my favorite hymns is “Come Thou Font of Every Blessing” and when I find myself experiencing the internal tug-of-war of old and new, I turn to the Lord with humility and sing:
“O to Grace how great a debtor / Daily I’m constrained to be / Let Thy goodness, like a fetter / Bind my wandering heart to Thee / Prone to wander Lord I feel it / Prone to leave the God I love / Take my heart Lord / Take and seal it / Seal it for thy courts above”
If you feel this way too, I invite you to sing with me.The only way to become a saint is to let God love me. // @chikasworld Click To Tweet
