It was a similar argument. That mind-numbing repetition resulting in my eyes rolling and a huff of frustration. How many times have I waited for him to put his phone down or get off his computer and give me his full attention?
My husband is a wonderful and devoted husband and father. He dotes on his family and loves us with his whole heart. But he cannot multi-task. Like, at all.
“I’m talking to you, can you just focus on what I am saying?”
“Can’t you see I am in the middle of something?”
The same argument. The same script. Yet, I expect a different outcome each time.
One evening, after a long day at work for both of us, I saw myself reverting to that same pattern: impatient huffs, passive aggressive attempts to get his attention when his focus was elsewhere, and a slow simmer of annoyance beneath the surface of my heart.
But something tugged at my heart. Someone whispering to me—let me teach you my ways and walk with me after today’s Responsorial Psalm.
I tried something different. I brushed my hand on my husband’s cheek and let him know I had a few things to talk to him about when he was available. He looked up and smiled at me and went back to his email. But after a few minutes, he put his phone down and asked me what was going on. I told him the tasks we needed to do around the house and a few other things on my mind. We had a conversation and listened to one another.
Instead of focusing on what I perceived as a shortcoming on my husband’s part, I turned inward and listened to that tug on my heart showing me that all I could do was modify my own actions and reactions so that I walked in the truth of the Lord.Walk in the truth of the Lord. // @Substance_Soul Click To Tweet
What ways does the Lord want to lead you in? Where can you be docile to His ways?
