“Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb” (Luke 1:41-42).
A voice called out, familiar, as I stepped out of the cool airport and into the scorching sun of Arizona. Jenna, the founder of Blessed is She, rolled up in her minivan to fetch me back to HQ for a leadership weekend with Jenna, Beth, and myself. We hugged, shouted a little with joy, and grabbed an iced chai on the drive back.
As we prayed, talked, laughed, cried, and worked on our mission statement, I kept thinking, How did this happen that I’m here, that we’re doing this together? It was all happenstance, you see.
A friend from law school connected me to a fellow mommy blogger, we met for dinner and shared ideas, she added me to a Catholic women blogging facebook group, and months later I responded in that group when Jenna asked if anyone wanted to be part of her idea to send daily reflections on the Mass readings to people.
My law school friend was an off-the-beaten path spirit, and we easily could not have known each other. My blogger friend’s dinner was in between nursing sessions, and I could have canceled, citing the baby’s intense night times. She didn’t have to recommend I join this group. And I didn’t have to be logged on the day Jenna put out the call.
God has a wild plan for me. A plan, a surprise path to give Him honor and glory that I can’t even begin to predict. God has a wild plan for you. Blessed are you among women, and the fruit you’ll bear, the way your unique gifts will bring God into the world, are going to surprise you, too.
Today sit with this Gospel in prayer and ask God, ask Him what the fruit of your spiritual womb will be this day, this week, this year. Ask in what ways you’re blessed. And if you don’t know, wait in confidence. He’ll show you.Wait in confidence. // Nell O'Leary Click To Tweet
Blessed Virgin Mary, help me bear God into the world today.
