Words from this week’s episode:

Another great episode! I mentioned last week that deep is my word for the next liturgical year, so of course I have been more tuned in to different mentions of the word. This week I especially loved Beth’s comments related to “the deep work of holiness is not really gratifying” and Michelle’s comment that “inner transformation is all about the deeper relationship, the deeper love.” These two paired together well since Beth explained why sometimes even when we know going deep is better, we might resist based on the work it entails or the challenges we might encounter by leaning into the process of going deep. These are great quotes for me to write down and revisit during the next liturgical year and to reflect on how I am cooperating with and how I am resisting going deep, as well as how I am creating space to go deep. In his book Deep Work, Cal Newport talks about the concept of draining the shallows in order to facilitate going deep. That will be another point of reflection for me – where am I investing in the shallows, rather than going deep? Why?
Thanks again for another great conversation. I always love your three voices. It was a special treat to hear Michelle on an additional podcast this week.
Such a treat!
